The Glenburn Hotel is a grand and elegant choice for your stay. The hotel is set in a prime position atop delightful terraced gardens and was originally constructed in 1892 as Scotlands first hydropathic retreat. It commands fabulous views overlooking Rothesay Bay and the Cowal Peninsula. Bute is an idyllic island haven just 33 miles from Glasgow as the crow flies. Nature-lovers may be lucky enough to spot porpoises on the outward ferry journey and get a good view of seals in Scalpsie Bay. Bute is only 15 miles long and 4 miles wide, but there is much to see and do on this tiny isle. Here you can enjoy fishing, golf, bowling, and visits to medieval castle ruins and various formal gardens. Take a stroll down to the pretty harbour or admire the fauna and flora along the islands West Island Way. A trip to Bute is a retreat from the hustle and bustle and a delight for the senses. Come and experience it for yourself.

Day One

We depart Cheadle 0830 and stopping for lunch en route. We travel to Wemyss Bay from where we take the ferry to Rothesay, arriving at our hotel in time for dinner.

Day Two


Mount Stuart & Scenic Tour of Bute
This morning we visit the neo-gothic Mount Stuart House and Gardens, one of the most technologically advanced houses of its age, set in 300 acres of landscaped gardens, woodland and coast. In the afternoon, we enjoy a scenic tour of the island before we arrive back in Rothesay, where we spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure.

Day Three

Cultural Glasgow
This morning, we journey to the mainland from Rothesay to Wemyss Bay by ferry from where we travel to Glasgow. We have time at leisure to explore the city’s numerous cultural attractions including the Riverside Museum (an awardwinning transport museum) and the magnificent Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. In the afternoon we return to Wemyss Bay for our return crossing to Rothesay.

Day Four

Inveraray Castle & Loch Lomond
This morning, we take a ferry from Rhubodach to Colintraive from where we travel along the shores of the tranquil Loch Fyne to Inveraray Castle & Gardens, where we enjoy a guided tour. After free time for lunch in the tea room we journey through spectacular Scottish scenery via the Rest and be Thankful viewpoint (the highest point on the journey) to beautiful Loch Lomond, with a refreshment stop at the picture postcard village of Luss. We then continue via the Erskine Bridge and Gourock until we reach Wemyss Bay where we travel by ferry back to Rothesay.

After breakfast and checking out we depart for home arriving back late afternon
